What is rayon?

Rayon also called Viscose, is the first artificial cellulose fiber and one of the most used in the manufacture of garments around the world (blouses, dresses, lingerie, ties and even sports or bedding). Brilliant as silk, it is made from cellulose extracted from wood and characterized by its high breathability.

Rayon fabric belong to the synthetic fabrics group. They are made from cellulose extracted from wood pulp. Garments and household textiles made of rayon have a similar appearance and drop to cotton, although they may weaken when wet and have a tendency to shrink. They can also fade quickly and wrinkle long after washing. Caring for this type of fabric requires special considerations, although if you already know them before, you can keep it strong and looking good for a while.

How to wash Rayon Fabric?

If it is not washed properly, the viscose is very sensitive to shrinkage. If you want your clothes to always be impeccable and avoid shrinking this fabric, follow these steps:

First of all, read the garment care Label before you turn on the faucet. Some viscose garments are not washable, so you should make sure you check the label before proceeding or you could damage it.

Rayon or viscose clothing is very fragile when wet, so we recommend that you wash it by hand, whenever possible.

If you wash the viscose clothes by hand:

Take a bucket, fill it with cold water and add the recommended dose of your chosen soap. It is important to choose one with neutral formula. it will maintain the appearance, the softness and the color of the garment.

Remember that you should never twist or wring this type of garments, as you can damage their fibers.

If you are going to wash the viscose in the washing machine:

Take the opportunity to do it together with other similar pieces of clothing, which need special care to avoid chafing and tearing.

Put the spun rayon fabric in a cloth bag for washing: this way it will be clean but you will protect the fabric at all times.

Select a program with a special cycle for delicate clothes, always at low temperature, and add the recommended dose of soap: it should have a gentle formula to protect fibers, colors and shape. It also leaves a pleasant smell without using softener.

Before drying the garment, carefully shake it to remove the moisture; you can also choose to roll it in a dry towel. Next, place it on a flat surface for drying. We recommend avoiding the dryer as the fabric could deteriorate.

Finally, iron the clothes always inside out to avoid damaging the fibers and creating unpleasant shine in the garments. You can also moisten the garment lightly and place a white cloth between the hot surface of the iron and the garment: this way you will protect the printed rayon fabric.

If you follow these recommendations you will keep your viscose garments like the first day.
